Getting to Porto de Galinhas
Porto de Galinhas is in Ipojuca, on the southern coast of Pernambuco, about 48 km from Recife International Airport, according to the Melhores Destinos guide. By car, via the BR-101 and the PE-009, the trip takes around one hour, according to Revista Oeste (January 2026).
By car
The most common route follows the BR-101 and then the PE-009 highway, the Rota do Atlântico toll expressway, which is usually the shortest route. Since January 4, 2026, the toll for cars is R$ 11.60. If you prefer another route, you can take the PE-060 to Ipojuca and, from there, the PE-038 to Nossa Senhora do Ó.
By bus
Two Greater Recife metropolitan lines cover the route, leaving from the Cais de Santa Rita terminal in Recife: the 191, without air conditioning and cheaper, and the 195, an "opcional" service that is a little more comfortable. Fares, checked in October 2026, are R$ 14.80 on the 191 and R$ 22.50 on the 195. The trip takes 2 hours on average, with many stops.
Taxi, Uber and transfer
At the airport, taxi drivers are organized in the Coopsetarec cooperative. In quotes published in December 2025, the ride to Porto de Galinhas cost R$ 220 by taxi, in a standard car, and R$ 92 on Uber X. Uber operates in Recife and Ipojuca. Another option is to book a transfer before the trip, with the driver waiting at arrivals.
Once at the destination, see Getting around the destination to move between the beaches.
