Tide table for Porto de Galinhas

The natural pools of Porto de Galinhas form at low tide, when the water becomes shallow between the reefs. That is why the day and time of the tour on a jangada, a traditional sail raft, depend on the tide table published by the Brazilian Navy's Hydrography Center, which you should check before booking the jangada.

Which table to check

Since Porto de Galinhas has no port of its own, the forecast used is the one for the Port of Suape, about 20 km from the Vila (the village center of Porto de Galinhas), which is part of the 2026 tide tables published by the Navy. For each day, the table gives the times of the high and low tides, with the predicted height in meters.

What height to look for

The tide considered ideal for the pools is up to 0.5 m. Below 0.4 m, you can walk out to the reefs. The closer to zero, the shallower the water. Also check whether the lowest tide of the day falls during the day, in daylight. The forecast is not exact at the site, because the behavior of the water also depends on the wind and the phase of the moon.

Moon and timing

The lowest tides occur at full moon and new moon, the best time for the tour. During the first and last quarter, the water neither rises nor falls much, the so-called neap tide. To make the most of it, arrive at the pools one to two hours before the time of the lowest tide. When the tide starts to rise, you need to be able to swim back safely.
