Tamandaré Beach and natural pools
R$$Tamandaré Beach is the town's central beach, on the southern coast of Pernambuco, with a seafront promenade and beach kiosks. At low tide, the reefs form natural pools. It suits families with children and anyone who wants a short boat tour to the reefs.

Getting there from Porto de Galinhas
By car, it is about 56 km to Tamandaré, around 55 minutes. There is no confirmed direct bus from Porto de Galinhas. Carneiros Beach is in the same municipality.
Hours and admission
The beach is public and has no opening hours. The trip to the pools is made by boat, with local operators, and depends on low tide, so the time changes every day. In October 2026, an operator in town advertised the tour to the Tamandaré natural pools from R$ 45 per person, departing from Rua do Sesi, in Vila Padre Arlindo, in Campas.
What to see
The Tamandaré reefs are part of the APA Costa dos Corais, a federal conservation area managed by ICMBio. The visiting sites designated in the municipality include Pirambu do Norte, Piscina do Val, Pirambu do Sul and Três Cabeços, with boat tours, snorkeling and swimming; at Pirambu do Sul there is also scuba diving. Tamandaré also has a closed reef area, created in 1999, where tourism and fishing are prohibited. A UFPE study found, at some points inside it, fish density up to 11 times higher than in areas open to fishing. Forte de Santo Inácio de Loyola is in the same town.
Before you go
In May 2025, the town hall issued a warning about a lionfish found in the Val natural pools. The advice is not to touch it, handle it or approach it, because the fish's spines are venomous, and to notify the Secretaria de Meio Ambiente (environment department) or ICMBio. The ICMBio base in Tamandaré is at Rua Samuel Hardman, s/n, phone and WhatsApp (83) 99120-4336. Check the tide table before booking the tour.
