Boa Viagem Beach

gratuito

Boa Viagem Beach runs for about 8 km in Recife, between Pina and Piedade, with a promenade, a bike path and beach kiosks. It is good for walking along the beachfront and, at low tide, seeing the pools formed by the reefs, always following the rules about sharks.

Getting there from Porto de Galinhas

Boa Viagem is less than 3 km from Recife Airport, which is about 48 to 50 km from Porto de Galinhas. Bus line 195, which connects Porto de Galinhas to Recife, runs along Avenida Engenheiro Domingos Ferreira, in Boa Viagem, and passes the airport.

Hours and admission

The beach is public and free to enter. Kiosk vendors offer beach umbrellas, chairs, snacks and drinks.

What to see

The beachfront has a busy promenade, a bike path and kiosks. A reef barrier shelters parts of the beach and, at low tide, forms shallow natural pools, such as those near Rua Ribeiro de Brito. To catch the lowest tide, check the tide table; full and new moons bring the most extreme tides. On the beachfront is Parque Dona Lindu, a cultural center designed by Oscar Niemeyer, with a program of theater and shows.

Before you go

Boa Viagem lies within the roughly 33 km stretch between Farol Beach, in Olinda, and Paiva Beach, in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, that is monitored by the state committee for shark incidents (Cemit). Along this stretch, water sports such as surfing are banned. In 2026, a 19-year-old woman was attacked at Boa Viagem. As of June 2026, the beach had warning signs but no formal swimming ban, which applies to a 2.2 km stretch in Piedade, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes. Cemit advises respecting signs, flags and lifeguards; choosing areas protected by reefs; taking extra care at high tide; avoiding the open sea, currents, murky water and river mouths; not going into the water after drinking, while bleeding or wearing shiny objects; avoiding swimming early in the morning and late in the afternoon; and keeping children within arm's reach. In an emergency, call 193.
